Hudson’s Bay Takeover: The Smell of Fear

nakedgun.jpgLt. Frank Drebin, Police Squad. Jerry Zucker, Hudson’s Bay? Is the director of Ghost and the Naked Gun series buying up North America’s oldest company?
The Hudson’s Bay Company, born in 1670, is being bought up by a North Carolina business type called Jerry Zucker. If the Zucker completes the takeover, with his astounding $1 billion ALL-CASH offer, questions as to how he’ll proceed with the retailer arise: Perhaps get ethical with wages? Revamp the Zellers card interest rates? Sell discount copies of Hot Shots Part Deux?
Whatever happens, Zucker has said he will n-o-t dismantle the company. And it’s not that Zucker anyways.

i see visions of Target stores coming to a mall near you.

Zellers has to go, I welcome Target to the Great White North. As much as I despise Sprawl-Mart, I have a hard time giving Zellers a shot. It must be the last place on earth (except for Honest Eds) where you can still buy garbage. Give me something I want and need in a store that doesn’t scream Lowest Common Denominator.
It would be sad to see HBC go, but lets face it, when was the last time anyone bought something there? After the fall of Eatons, The Bay was soon to follow.

YAY! thank god it’s over. i was embarrassed for them. like saturday night and other irrelevant, barely breathing institutions, the bay must go, please, zucker, take it fast. it’s so clearly mismanaged, anything would be better.

In August of 2004, when the news broke out that someone from the US was considering to buy HBC, I figured out that it was only a matter of time that this would happen. I myself worked at The Bay for several years and, sadly enough, I started to see it crumble. The customer service was not up to par, the upper management’s decisions were horrendous and, of course, the store itself was falling apart-literally. I asked myself, “How long is this mediocrity going to last?” Well, my question was answered one year later when, toward the end of October, Mr. Zucker made a bid to HBC. To me, this was a breath of fresh air because at that time, I thought that this could be the man who can clean up the crapola that this company has been creating. Ever since then, I waited patiently for the word to become official. Finally, on March 9, 2006, Mr. Zucker became the governor and CEO of HBC. In my mind, I had the same reaction as Rocco’s posting: YAY!!!!! Some people were very mad this takeover has ocurred; to them, I say, “What are you going to do about it?!” It is my hope that Mr. Zucker will steer this company in the right direction in making this store competitive and that he will restore the excellent customer service that this company once had.

Wow…i work for HBC (customer service) and i’m busy most nights..so i guess people STILL DO shop there..whether we’re owned by Americans or Canadians isn’t the issue. The issue is.. are we now going to have the $$ to make sure the customers are satisfied?? Without the customer we have no Hudson Bay! Without the customer we have NO PAYCHECK! So regardless of who owns it let’s just hope the $$ are there to keep it in business!
