So you're not TIFFing towards ecstasy, making like conspicuously consuming celebs on Bloor's Mink Mile who spend small fortunes in order to drown out the loneliness of the red carpet (boo hoo). The weekend's stuffed with fashiony goodness that's kinder to the civilian pocketbook, and much more satisfying.

Susan Harris Design, queen of urbane recycled clothing, is having an open house at her studio today, and inviting other designer to present their wares: jewellery by metalsmithing duo Cinelli & Maillet . At 135 Tecumseth St., Unit 2 (just south of Queen West), 4pm until midnight, and again tomorrow from noon to 6pm.
Tomorrow:
1. For a mash-up of folk costumes and bespoke tailoring of a bygone era, Toronto labels Lydia K. and Las Valentias, both of whom create one-of-a-kind waistcoats, jackets and skirts from vintage and salvaged fabric, are holding their September sale, featuring past seasons and previously unavailable one-of-a-kind pieces, most at about half the usual retail price. 183 Bathurst Street (north of Queen), noon to 8pm.

2. Check out the second annual Tranzac Open House, an all-day event of theatre and folksy music. Its free, and inside you’ll find the Tranzac Open House Craft Fair more iPod cosies and funked up homemade goodies than churchy teapot bonnets and dough dolls. These fine handmade and vintage wares come from vendors Sunshine Deli (stylish secondhand threads with a 70s vibe), Karissa Cove (bags, and candy-striped iPod Shuffle slippers), reworked silk scarf clutches by Smitten Kitten, Damned Dolliess cutesy-macabre t-shirts and miniature doll brooches, tweedy hip sashes from Nathalie-Roze, semi-precious jewellery by White Lotus, and Izik Levys toys for grownups. 11am to 6:30pm at the Tranzac on Brunswick Ave, just around the corner from Future Bakery in the Annex.
