Email Campaign "Stops" Bill 602P

spam.jpgBill 602P? Liberal Tony Schnell (NB)? Taxing email messages? If you received this email, wouldn't you ask the same questions? Apparently not. A small 'c' conservative email hoax is still catching some gullables with the fabricated story that the Canadian government - led of course by Tony Schnell - is imposing a tax on emails.

The generic "help us" hoax email cites a fictitious Liberal MP 'Tony Schnell (NB)' and a Toronto Star editorial in favour of a bill to place a five cent levy on emails. The rumours grew so large that Hillary R. Clinton was asked about it in a New York State media scrum, and most recently Canada Post actually responded. The widespread hoax made rounds in both Australia and the U.S. too. Email hoaxes are so 1998.
