Ist List: Best Slice # 1

papaceo.jpg1. Papa Ceo’s Pizza (654 Spadina)
Any given chunk of pizza pie might have all the makings for a good pizza experience. Any given chunk might also have the potential to soothe your pizza soul on a rainy Friday. And let’s face facts – any given chunk of pizza is the most popular given chunk. Papa Ceo’s is not just any chunk. Located near U of T and the Annex, Ceo’s is probably most famous for their saucily named chunks of pizza; like, for instance, the Madonna. But getting down to the fundamentals – cheese, sauce, crust – Papa Ceo’s has few equals. For starters, P. Ceo has the best crusts in Toronto. Sweet and chewy, it’s as if they get the dough imported from a freaking pastry shoppe!
Along with indelible amounts of cheese and sauce, a Papa Ceo’s pizza really comes out swinging from the first bite. And this boldness is precisely what sets this fatherly pizza-maker apart from the competition..

um, what? you meant cora’s right? cora’s.

When I moved into my first place in Toronto, it was down the street from Papa Ceo, and I went in really late after a really long moving day and ordered “The Godfather” and Papa Ceo himself said “I’m a godfather, why don’t you take me home instead?” And I was so tired that without even thinking I said “Maybe some other night, sir.” I have loved them unconditionally ever since.

No slight on Ceo’s, but, really, WTF? Marcello’s owns this entire post.

josh…do you even live in toronto? i find your lists offensively poor…live in the city….do research please…

  • a toronto dude

ceo has the greasiest slices in the city! even cora has better slices (eg. the sicilian). what a weak top 10.

  • Fen

Perhaps a list compiled through submissions is more appropriate for something like this.

Yeah, I’m not feeling Papa Ceo. I’ve had it five times and each time it was the driest, dullest crap I’ve ever tasted. Cora is just a slice of grease, but at least its edible.

  • Josh

    danielle: right on.
vinton: where do you think i live?
toronto dude: agreed. horrible top ten list – there were only five entries.
fen: feel free, this week we’re doing five best breakfast nooks.

You forgot to mention the god-awful service.
You left the one of the best pizza places in Toronto off your list (Cora’s) and it’s right next to Papa C.

  • Oat Globe

I’ll say it again, Marcello’s. Real pizza can only be found in the Corso. And I agree with vinton, going by these lists, it’s hard to buy into the idea of torontoist.

papa ceo makes me want to vomit.

  • Bernard M.

WHAT is wrong with you all? Papa Ceo is the best, and forever will be.
Way to go Josh, forget these untasteful peons.
