TOist Unveils Tech Tune-Up: Photoblogging TO

tech.jpgEli Singer, of Singer.TO, signs on to a lifetime of hyperlinks and inspired comments from Billonlogan today, as we launch his weekly feature, Tech Tune-Up. Today, Flickry photographers. Tomorrow, the world:

Toronto is home to world-class photobloggers. Earlier this year, Sam Javanrouh's Daily Dose of Imagery won a Bloggie for best international photoblog. PhotoJunkie by Rannie Turingan took the best in Canada prize. Sam and Rannie do an amazing job of capturing moments in our city that generally pass unseen or underappreciated. And now, with photo communities like Flickr, they're not the only ones sharing digital bytes of our town.

Flickr is a photo sharing website that's free to join. Images are easy to upload, even done by email or cameraphone. If a photo is classified as public, it's available for anyone to see.

With Flickr, photos can be categorized with keywords (or tags), which makes it easy to search for images with common tags across the entire community.

Searching 'Toronto', you can find pics by:
Gail on the web - Downtown shots from the CN Tower
Lemon hound - Sights on Queen Street
AviatorDave - "A long weekend trip; for Canada Day, the Fourth of July, and to see my sweetie!"
TimothyPilgrim - Live 8 in Barrie
And of course the post long-weekend search for 'Canada Day Fireworks'

In what way is a Web site like Flickr "tech," and why does it require a "tune-up"?

Looking forward to next week's instalment, in which we are schooled in the use of the Back button.

Joe Clark, go home! You're obviously too smart for this blog, so why don't you go busy yourself with old copies of SPY!
