Tech Tune-Up: Surfing on Toronto’s Wireless Waves

tech.jpgFinding a free wireless hotspot in this town isn’t always easy. With the exception of the Forest Hill Village, Toronto’s grassroots wireless providers haven’t been able to go mainstream or convince the city to take action.

But with a little work and some smart planning (ie, choosing a patio in the right location), you can be outside and online.

Enter the Wireless Bandit Toronto hotspot index. By wardriving, the Wireless Bandits have identified wifi signals through every inch of our town. Many of them are unencrypted and open.

You can find free Internet in the downtown core by using their map or index. There’s also an RSS feed announcing new hotspot locations.

Practice safe surfing.

You might want to start using www.tinyurl.com to compress those humungous url's that don't seem to want to work.

Just go to the page and follow the directions and voila a tiny manageable url

Wireless Bandit URL no longer works!

Are they having technical issues or did they move their URL or did they go under?
