i'm more of a wallace shawn guy myself (he fills the role of the irritable little guy with the lisp). even read a few of his plays. and he's canadian too (i think).
I'm a Shawn fan, too, but he is very much from New York. His film debut was in "Manhattan" and his dad was arguably the greatest editor the "New Yorker" ever had.
Shawn was good fun in Miranda and Miranda.
