New Cellphone Carrier?
If you ask us, the City of Toronto's new slogan and logo looks like it's advertising a new cellphone company. But they don't pay us the big bucks to draw up these tourist-magnetizing feats of graphic wonderment, so we'll let the quirky little graphic alone. We will, however, quibble with the worthiness of taking out a two-page TO Unlimited spread in yesterday's Times, and filling it with the most awful copy one can muster up about our fair burg. To wit:
The crowds and wares of Chinatown make it impossible to get from point A to B without stopping. Cheap luggage, authentic food and a general sense of urgency typify this neighborhood.or: Visitors can sit with a pitcher of Canadian beer, Sangria or even Sake in Little Italy and watch partygoers for hours march up and down College St. It's a spot for hipsters, yuppies and local 'old school' residents. You are as likely to see a sideways trucker cap adorn a passing head, as you are a straw fedora.'
If cheap luggage bought urgently is all Toronto can offer up to New Yorkers, it's no wonder they're not forsaking Canal Street for Baldwin. That said, we do drink our Sake by the pitcher.

Wow, who wrote that ad copy! I can write better ad copy.... Also, if it's impossible to get from point A to point B without stopping why the "general sense of urgency"
Also the logo sucks too.... Blech. Design by committee, or consulting "key stakeholders" never works.
Good god, who wrote that copy? It reads like some grade 9 assignment, minimum 500 words.
PS:
"if it's impossible to get from point A to point B without stopping why the 'general sense of urgency'"
Have you enjoyed the general aroma of Spadina on a hot summer afternoon?
A)Crowds = constant stopping
B)Sun + Garbage = olfactory assualt
A + B = General sense of urgency
Why does that stupid jingle "city above Toronto..." sound good right now.
You thought cell phone carrier...I thought the logo looked like it was for a new charter bus line (a la Greyhound). Either way, a kindergarten kid could've come up with that...and didn't they spend like $4M to come up with this crap?
definitely also looks like some transit line - bus or light rail. and yes, i read that it cost approx 4 million. Rather depressing that.
I am so embarrassed for Toronto right now...
