So apparently there's some sort of thing going on up in Barrie at (Molson) Park Place this Saturday. A whole bunch of bands, raising awareness, blah blah blah. The bill looks something like this - African Guitar Summit, Barenaked Ladies, Blue Rodeo, Bruce Cockburn, Bryan Adams, The Bachman Cummings Band, Deep Purple, DobaCaracol featuring Kna'an, Gordon Lightfoot, Great Big Sea, Jann Arden, Jet, Les Trois Accords, Motley Crue, Our Lady Peace, Sam Roberts, Simple Plan, Tegan & Sara, The Tragically Hip, Tom Cochrane, DMC and a headlining performance by Neil Young. Tickets were free but are gone daddy gone and if you want one, well, there's always people who know people. Or you can stay home and watch it on TV - CTV begins coverage of the show, as well as the other ones taking place around the world, at 11AM Saturday morning.

Friday, July 1:
Canada Day means free parties at Harbourfront! Leading the crowds in "Happy Birthday" to our country will be Feist, along with Apostle of Hustle. AoH go on at 8, Feist at 9. Of course, Canada Day also means Edgefest, which bring Billy Talent, Alexisonfire and scores of other angry, tattooed youth to the Molson Amphitheatre to share in their disaffectedness. Tickets are $25.50 to be angry on the lawn, $47.50 to be angry up front.

Saturday, July 2:
Ari-Up former frontwoman for punk pioneers The Slits, plays the second of a two-night stand at Sneaky Dee's with controller.controller and Grasshopper Soundclash, admission $12.50. Elsewhere, the Great Pumpkin Billy Corgan wants to put the Smashing Pumpkins back together, and he needs the money from your $40-$45 tickets to bribe his old bandmates (or buy new ones). In return, he will play you songs from his new solo record which will no doubt make you want to help him reassemble his old band even more.

Sunday, July 3:
Wavelength this week features The Fembots and Hylozoists at Sneaky Dee's, admission as always is pay-what-you-can.

Monday, July 4:
Get your sensitive singer-songwriter on with Aqualung at the Mod Club, $13.50, get your metal on with the Sounds Of The Underground at Arrow Hall, where $35.50 gets you Lamb Of God, GWAR and more, or get your Deftones-side project on with Team Sleep at the Opera House, $22.50.

Tuesday, July 5:
Mark Knopfler proves there's life after Dire Straits at the Molson Amphitheatre, admission $49.50-$79.50.

Wednesday, July 6:
For $20 to $85.50, you can see Zep-man Robert Plant perform at the Molson Amphitheatre with The Soundtrack Of Our Lives, who will also be performing their own show at the Horseshoe later that night. That one will run you $20. Or if you want to keep it local, The Empires and The Diableros are tearing it up at The Social out Parkdale way (Queen W and Dovercourt). Five bucks at the door.
