Mixtape: Second Album Power

2005_01_07mixtape.gifHello there Mixtape followers. Sorry about the infrequent postings -- compiling a weekly Mixtape becomes a daunting task in the face of full-time employment. Soldiering on though: When was the last time a band made a sophomore album that was equal to or better than their debut? British Sea Power aficionados would tell you that occurred last February. And just as BSP did in their Toronto concert last night, Torontoist offers a selection of songs off of their excellent second album, Open Season. Power.

1. British Sea Power - "Oh Larsen B"
Oh Larsen B! Larsen B, by the by, is an Artic ice shelf of some kind...Best song on the album?

bsp_open.jpg2. British Sea Power - "It Ended On An Oily Stage" Video
Best video for the album?

3. British Sea Power - "Tugboat"
Cover of Galaxie 500 for the Rough Trade comp called Stop Me If You've Heard This One Before.

4. Belle & Sebastion - "Wrapped Up In Books"
From a Books EP which also included "Your Covers Blown" -- described as the indie "Bohemian Rhapsody" by lead-Sebastian Stuart Murdoch. Unfortunately, no songs from the Books EP will be on the soon-to-be released B&S compilation Push Barman To Open Old Wounds.

5. Bright Eyes - When Presidents Talk To God" Video
From Leno. Mr Eyes is in Toronto as you read.

6. Sleater-Kinney - "Entertain"
New song from old punks.

7. Jeremy Warmsley Recordings...
New bedroom-electronic-fuzz guy from the U.K. Might be worth checking out if you're into that sort of thing.

Power...out? Until next week.
