Church Street = Fleet Street?

Eye editor Bert Archer reminded attentive readers that the alt-weekly would soon be adding to Church Street's crowded media scene (Now, Fab and Xtra are already there). Archer even posited that Church be affectionaly dubbed Toronto's Fleet Street. We see the logic of this idea. Especially when there are so many young and eager Ryerson journalism grads just waiting to make their mark. Up-start "youth" rag, Dose has also been hiring job-desperate university students to hand out papers, harking back to the newsies of yester-year. Minus the exploitation and slave wages, we hope.

The area's new designation could even be another make work project for Councillor Kyle Rae and the Downtown Yonge BIA who have been busy putting up asinine poles and signs reminding people that, yes, they're downtown and yes, they're on Yonge St. so why not new huge poles telling us that we're entering Toronto's media village?

Maybe they'll finally print something worthy of the old Fleet Street.
As for the 'dosies', poor buggers, I'd rather hand out the Toronto Free Press.

why is the word 'young' under quotations, ron? because i've heard that they only hire young, energetic people.

Well Josh, I put "youth" under quotation marks there because Dose seems to target everyone from 14-35.... I don't know about you, but isn't that a fairly broad definition of youth?

And of course they'd hire young, energetic people to hand out the papers.... have you schlepped around 200-300 copies of Dose? Newsprint is heavy!
