Look Out Skippy, There’s a New PB in Town

pb&co.jpgThanks in part to a little shop in Greenwich Village, peanut butter has gone gourmet.  Peanut Butter & Co. has been tantalizing the taste buds of New Yorkers with it’s famous home-made PB, available in six varieties.  Nope, it’s not just smooth or chunky anymore. At PB & Co. peanut butter foodies have a choice between Cinnamon Raisin Swirl, Dark Chocolate Dreams or our favourite, White Chocolate Wonderful.
Not planning a trip to the hustle and bustle of Manhattan anytime soon?  Don’t worry, now Toronto PB fans can head to their neighbourhood gourmet grocer to find the stuff New Yorkers have been raving about since 1998.
Though there is an extensive list of Toronto PB & Co. carriers on its website, TOist  had a tough time finding this scrumptious spread.  After checking Bruno’s Fine Foods and Whole Foods, TOist was finally successful at Pusateri’s on Avenue Road, at Lawrence.
PB & Co. uses a special blend of peanuts that are chosen for their taste, texture, and natural sweetness.  All of their peanut butters are natural so there’s no additional fatty hydrogenated oil, but it’s not exactly fat free.  Though peanut butter is known to be more fattening than heavy cream, it is packed with protein, essential vitamins and minerals, it contains fiber and is a good source of natural folic acid, mmmm, folic acid.  The six dollah splurge will last about three months…but if you are anything like us, that 16 oz. jar will be empty within a week!
