Jazzin’ Up the Tracks?

2005_3_18streetcar.jpgThe sisyphean task of maintaining the city’s streetcar tracks continue. This time it’s Beaches residents that’ll have to contend with welding crews and jackhammers. Until June 30 track construction will shut down streetcar service East of Queen and Lee and Queen and Lark.
But to the brilliant marketing people at the TTC this isn’t just track reconstruction. They’re “Jazzin’ Up the Track.” No word whether they’ll be blaring Norah Jones to soothe affected business owners.
Too bad they didn’t have the foresight to cushion the blow of the College St. repairs with a catchy musical slogan (“the Conga Line down College?”). More importantly will they keep the musical motif when repairing tracks in other parts of the city? “Boogie down Bathurst” anyone?

I live off Dundas west of Ossington and was just praying they wouldn’t do to Dundas what they did to College last year… didn’t that seem to take an unnecessarily long time? Why they only switched College Dundas at Ossington and Bay is beyond me… could’ve swtiched at Bathurst, Spadina and McCaul as well to get parts of the line up and running sooner.
This Bathurst round will be interesting, but at least they’ll be running a bus on the same line as the streetcar, which they for some reason did not do on College.
I can’t believe I’m still irritated about this.
