Franchise Bruises Raps Ego

2005_03_10hoffa.gifAlthough the Raptors are only 4.5 games out of the final playoff spot, and 6 games back of the division leading Boston Celtics, the hopes of a playoff birth should realistically be dropped.

Following Toronto’s win over the Orlando Magic at the Air Canada Centre last night, the optimism was once again running wild. "It's impressive the kind of balance we had. We're going to need a lot of that the rest of the season," said team leader Jalen Rose. After their recent four game road trip in which they lost three, Wednesday night’s win still leaves the Raptors sitting dead last in the NBA’s worst division. Forward Donyell Marshall said, "If we could have come back from that road trip 3-1, teams would have been falling back to us. We put ourselves in a tough situation. We can't win every game, but we've got to try." In reference to the road trip, their only win came against the Western Conference bottom-feeding New Orleans Hornets. Torontoist supposes a win is a win, but don’t forget that three losses are more importantly three losses.

The Orlando Magic currently hold the 7th spot in the Eastern Conference, one spot ahead of where the Raptors are fighting to get. It can’t help your confidence when a player on a team that is barely holding down a playoff spot, suggests giving up because they couldn’t even beat you! Apparently that is the league opinion of our team these days. Following last night’s game, Magic point guard Steve Francis said his team may as well "give up" if they can’t even beat a team like Toronto. On that note, coupled with a 25-36 record, Torontoist has a feeling that the Raptors will not be winning every game, Donyell.

I certainly hope you aren't insinuating that the Raptors are incapable of qualifying for the NBA Playoffs.
I sure enjoy kicking back, free of the pressures of my usual hussle and bussle, taking off my scarf and overcoat, loosening my tie (sometimes)and watching the Raptors give 100%. sometimes i even incorporate a coors light into the mixture. not on a work night of course.. neither my mom or boss dennis would be very appreciative of that i think.
those Raptors are a hard working bunch of competitors. i'd appreciate if you treated them with a little more dignity sir.
