CBC HD For Thee

hdtv.gifFor once, that bloody promo girl is silent on something of import at the CBC. The claptrap herself hasn’t made any announcements about CBC’s shift to HDTV over the weekend, perhaps because the transition had been oft delayed, and execs wished to fend off any possible embarrassment. But it’s here, if quietly, and there’s even a companion CBC HD site that has apparently been around for awhile, if without any promotion. According to some, HD in Canada still has a long way to go, perhaps due to a lack of mandates on the part of the CRTC to force broadcaster implementation, as has been the case in the U.S. It’s a step forward for our slow-moving giant of a public broadcaster, but only useful to a very small number of people who both have HDTV and are interested in watching Canada: A People’s History again, in shmancy HD technicolour.

Perhaps Promo Girl was silent on this subject because Promo Girl promotes CBC RADIO, not tv. Lay off, she’s cute.

She does crossover plugs for shows like the Newsroom. And she grates.

I heard a thing about how HDTV is causing problems for the makeup and props people at CBC. HDTV means you can see EVERYTHING. It’s problematic because the CBC props room is full of really old and worn stuff, so that’s gonna start showing up because of all that new crystal clear HDTV. The CBC just can’t win, can they?
