The letters pages of this month's issue of Masthead magazine are positively snark-laden. Taddle Creek's Editor-in-Chief sees fit to quibble with the high praise given Spacing Mag's buttons in last mo's issue for not using an authentic TTC font. But the actual backgrounds on the pins aren't real either - Designer Matt Blackett illustrated them to represent the look of the TTC stations - so it's a bit of a silly point of contention. That said, Taddler-in-Chief Conan Tobias alights us to the fact that a TTC font is available from typographer David Vereschagin. TOist wants in on said fontage, be it postscript, truetype or falsetype.
The letters fun continues with an embarrasing I'm-so-bored-I-have-to-write-unsolicited-letters-to-magazines note from Sheila Copps. Seemingly miffed that she wasn't included in the magazine's gimmick of last month (Write a letter to the founder of Maclean's on the occasion of the magazine's 100th anniversary!), Copps writes a perfectly superfluous letter, heaps on the same praises that others did, and manages to somehow slug the CBC's Greatest Canadian contest, by way of a link most tenuous to the longitude of Maclean's.

I think the Taddle Creek ed just has button envy.
I wrote Concan a quick letter after seeing the letter in Masthead. here's my response:
I like the perfectionist in you. Except that you're wrong about the font usage. Yes, the subway station graphics we currently showcase (like in Masthead and on our website) are still using Futura font. But our actual buttons, as of Jan 2 2005, have been using the official TTC font. About 1,000 buttons we did for Canzine and our issue 3 launch party are the inaccurate ones. But the majority of buttons (about 15,000 to date) are bang-on. I've been too busy packaging the little buggers to update the graphics.
Fontaholically yours,
Matt B
