Theatre Tuesday: Post-Theatre Snackery
Let's say you go to see Poochwater, the Dora-winning play by Winnipeg-born Mike McPhaden which opens in previews at the Theatre Passe Muraille tomorrow. And then, let's say you come out with a craving for something else from Winnipeg: Old Dutch Chips.
Well, fear not! You're just a hop, skip and a jump away from Super Queen Market, the convenience store located at 596 Queen St. W. Conveniently close to both Theatre Passe Muraille AND Factory Theatre (still showing Claudia Dey's faboo Trout Stanley), Super Queen Market is one of a dozen or so places where Western Canadian immigrants and the men and women who love them can procure Old Dutch Chips in Toronto. A full list of these stores follows, but it should also be noted that you can order a box full of Old Dutch chips online at www.olddutchfoods.ca and get it delivered right to the door of your basement apartment.

As an expat Saskatchewanian, I have a caveat on the search for Old Dutch: always check the due date as I have taken a stale bag home now and then only to be left crying in my chips.
Also, there is a corner store on the northwest side of Howard Park and Roncesvalles that carries Old Dutch too.

Eww, does this mean they ship out the stale, old bags out to us here in Toronto? So if they can't leave us freezing in the dark they'll just leave us crying in our chips? Talk about some weird passive agressive form of western alienation.
