Rafer Alston is the New Terrell Owens

2005_02_08raferWith Vince Carter merely an unfortunate memory to our fine city, another Toronto Raptor is filling the void left behind.

Point guard Rafer Alston has disrupted the team once again this week, with rumors claiming that he started a fistfight with coach Sam Mitchell during halftime on Tuesday evening. And, in plain view of all the Cleveland fans, Alston appeared to leave the court in tears. Tears! There's no crying in basketball. In post VC Raptors, Alston has hit the new low.

Alston has been a nuisance both prior and subsequent to Vince Carter’s departure, starting with his childish threats to quit the NBA following a benching by coach Mitchell in December. Tuesday’s incident happened during only his third game back from a team-imposed two game suspension.

With these continuous disruptions, Rafer’s occasional signs of brilliance fail to justify the team’s long-term commitment to him. He has made both a collegiate and professional career out of sulking and complaining. Perhaps the NBA isn’t the right fit for Alston...apart from the New Jersey Nets of course.
