M.I.A.: She's Doing Her Thang, Yo!

MIA.jpgLast night the Drake was a veritable spectacle of boldfaced grandeur, trendy sneakers and perfectly worn in high-heeled leather boots. M.I.A. took to the stage, and a gaggle of journos, bloggers, and people with Dov Charney-esque facial hair shook their booties like TOist has rarely seen in this town. PopWherry, our occasional concert cohort, was tucked in the back, and Eye guy Stuart Berman was somewhere thereabouts too. Torontoist hero Mr. Zoilus told us that M.I.A. was up to the hype, and rumour has it that Torontoist's other hero Hannah Sung and her lanky dance partner Isaac King were on hand as well. On the musical front, Four Tet was in the hizouse as well as Sofi P.'s favourite reggaetons Bedouin Soundclash.

MIA-1.jpgAs for Maya herself...is there anything we can't say? The girl is proof that macho-regressive morons like The Game and Fiddy cent are finally receding. The society of pimps and hustlers only exists in the minds of record industry executives and Snoop Dogg. If only M.I.A. could get on MTV, yo! Download her Piracy Funds Terrorism here, but don't forget to support her album later this month.
