Film Fridays: Hotel Rwanda

bilde.jpgChalk it up to the parade of pap that we've been watching of late, but TOist is going to go dramatically serious for this evening's marquee film recommendation. Hotel Rwanda won the audience award at TIFF, which could mean as little as it could mean a lot. But you go to a film like Hotel Rwanda not so much to like it as to feel it. It won't be a Sunday at the pool in Kigali, but TOist thinks the Don Cheadle/Nick Nolte helmed story of one small piece of the greater horror of the Rwandan Genocide is a worthy pick, though perhaps not on Friday night, right before you go out carousing with friends.
The site for the film offers a great reference library of films and resources for learning more about this unbearable blight on recent history, like PBS' Frontline doc, Ghosts of Rwanda, and the BBC radio doc, It's My Story, where Paul Rusesabagina returns to Rwanda with Beeb journo Steve Bradshaw.

- Related: The Globe's interesting piece on similarities real or imagined between Gen. Romeo Dallaire and Nolte's character.
