Dear TSN commentator Pierre McGuire:
Like many Canadians, we at Torontoist were ecstatic to see Jeff Carter and our national junior team beat Russia 6-1 to win the Gold medal in last night's World Junior Tournament. It was, without doubt, a joyous occasion for all Canadians. But as we angrily walked home from our local sports establishment, we wondered, "Why are we angrily walking home from our local sports establishment? Shouldn't this be a time to rejoice with a few bubbly-pops?" The reason we were so angry, Pierre, is because of your incredibly inane commentary. You are a pimple on the face of Canadian sport. Does any hockey fan in the country enjoy your gruff, opinionated, baseless and continual rants all game? We felt as though we were watching the broadcast with a drunken frat boy. How you are even employed in the first place is beyond us. Don Cherry may be considered a bigot, but at least he wears sharp suits and knows when to shut up. You're a disgrace.

I hate to break it to you, but McGuire is one of Canada's top hockey analysts. As a former player and coach, you'll have to admit he knows his stuff. I actually am in love with the guy. Do you think he is reading?
Gotta agree and say I think you're totally wrong. When TSN's airing Habs games and he's working, I'm actually really happy it's him.

I am going to have to agree with the Torontoist on this one. Pierre McGuire may know a thing or two about the game, as does most of the nation, but listening to his over exuberant commentary is like having your pennies stapled to a burning barn.
During the game I would have liked to turn the volume really high- so high drowning out the rooms conversation and annoying everyone– but was afraid my ears would fall of if I heard McGuire squawking like a schizophrenic Mexican cab driver.
As someone who doesn't watch too much hockey, I have to say that his comments on Tuesday night were HALARIOUS. But I really have nothing to compare them too. Didn't he say something like "faster than beer at a frat keg party"??

I would have to agree with Adrian...Pierre may know his hockey but he definatly needs to tone it down...He needs to remember he is no longer a coach and what he says infront of the camera is different from what you say in the locker room.
If he was so good why isn't he coaching anywhere???

Couldnt agree more with the torontoist, Me and my brother had the exact experiece watching the juniors last christmas, he ruined every game with his ridiculous babble. Anyone who says different must not be to big into hockey.
I hate what McGuire does when two teams are playing. The team that is off to a rough start, he talks down about them, then suddenly they turn it around and then he starts talking bad about the next team and good about the team that was loosing in the first place. As a professional, you never talk bad about any team, you just say what you think they should be doing better or improving on. Don't put either side down.
This is the first page that comes up on a Google search of "Hate Pierre McGuire". He continues to grate on my nerves. Reading the posts above, there are many people who do not want to hear "funny" expressions like "goes down faster than beer at a frat party". I am watching a hockey game. Not stand-up comedy.
I don't know why he yells everything. I don't know why he says inane things like (in response to being informed it is a player's birthday) "I don't think this guy doesn't even like birthdays. He just likes to hit people."
He is supposed to be a colour commentator. COLOUR. He seems to talk more than the play-by-play man. Harry Neale may be declining in his skills, but at least he picks and chooses his times to speak - normally after the play has finished. Which is the way it should be for a colour commentator.
I thought I was the only one that hated Pierre, I agree he knows his stuff and is occassionally funny, but this guy is the most annoying sports personality on the planet, I actually turned off the Russia Canada final tonight to play some EA Sports NHL 06 to get some refreshing Jim Hughson commentary!
Anyway, I doubt I will watch another TSN hockey broadcast ever again, why didn't TSN pick up Ron McLean that time CBC laid him off for 5 seconds...they should have been all over him.

one of the good things about the lock out was less of this paid-by-the-word fella reminding us how much he knows. like many others on this continent, they should all be forced to observe a few British soccer broadcasts and realize pictures say more than words do.
during the US-Norway game he was pounding (he CAN'T say anything less than 2 times) the fact that Phil Kessel's a puck hog. last I saw he had a goal and 9 assists.

You guys think he's tough to listen to during the game? Try bunking in with him 24/7 during the hockey season. I've tried to get rid of him since day one but he obviously has something on the brass that keeps him here. For me the worst comments he made during the juniors, "He just became a man with that play" ... yikes.
Mcguire is by far the worst voice on Canadian sports tv.

I actually hate this guy. He's probably the worst analyst in the game today. If he was my coach, id probably shoot myself...thats probably why he isnt coaching today.
What I hate most about him is the way he thinks he's really smart and always right, even when hes making a stupid comment. Wut a dumbass. And he always rants about the stupid stuff, and tells you the most obvious things. And is incredibly biased.

I hate that Pierre Mcguire..For us and I mean this "True Hockey Fans" none of us want to hear Pierr Mcguire state the obvious with his overuse of words only literary english professors might comprehend. Mix that with "WAMMO" and there you have it, my recipe for putting that shotgun to my head and pulling the f_ckin trigger till it goes Click. TSN has to understand that their real fan base actually consists of real sports fans and real sports fan DO NOT LIKE THIS MAN. This guy is a meatball in the true sense of the word. I wish he would listen to guys like Harry Neale, Dick Irvin, John Mclean and take a page out of their book. They represent the true class of hockey. They make the game more respectable. I'm very glad to have found this post. I too am among those who hate on McGuire and was worried I was alone in a Twilight Zone where I was the only one.
He's borderline racist with his disparaging comments about how other countries play.
He's out to lunch on the play by play commentary often having the play by play guy correct him. (ie. McGuire: well that is certainly a penalty. Gord: Actually, Pierre it was an icing. Pierre: Well it should have been. Wammo!)
He has lots of stats (which anyone in the industry knows is put together by the research crew - Pierre has shit to do with it) and he can deliver them in a passionate way but its like watching a chef give a speech about brick laying - its obvious he doesn't know what the words he's saying mean.
The 2010 Olympics are ruined now that I know TSN will be the host broadcaster. I pray Pierre will be fired by then.
I dont know about the rest of you guys, but when I think of Christmas, i think of the world juniors. But every year my christmas gets ruined by that moron. After this year you could actually smell the american penis off pierre's breathe. Not to mention from the year before, the ever famous "DOUBLE DION" quote made you ashamed to be canadian, let alone a hockey fan.

I think Pierre McGuire is a bum. He might know a thing or two about hockey but he cuts up players and teams in a unprofessinal fashion. Its sick. I can not believe TSN and NBC would give this guy money for doing what he does. I watched the Pens-flyers game tonight on the Toronto Sports Network (TSN) and it seems to me that Mcguire wants to procreate with Sidney Crosby in his la bamba. The entire game he kept trying to get Gord Miller (also a tool) to admit that Crosby is a better, smarter and just generally more of an impact type player than my boy Jarome Iginla. This may be the case, but is it Mcguire's job to decide who the best player in the league is? let alone pestering your broadcasting partner to change his pick as league MVP up to this point of the season? It didnt help that crosby ended the night with 6 points or some shit!
It was almost as if Mcguire wanted to say in his annoying little voice "see I told you crosby is better" HAHA.
Now I just want to make it clear that I am not upset that Mcguire thinks Crosby is a better player than Iginla (The guy is 19 years old and is leading the league in scoring, he obviously has a great career ahead of him, which I look forward to watching) Im just pissed that Mcguire would make such a big deal out of the whole Crosby vs Iginla debate for the entire contest. The whole game it sounded as if Mcguire was auditioning for the job of agent for MR. Crosby. All players make mistakes and are usually called out for it, sometimes gleefully, by Mcguire. But, When Crosby coughed the puck up several times, leading to good scoring chances by the Flyers, no mention of it was made by Mcquire, Not even a "He's still young, Gord, He'll get better as he gets more games under his belt." Any other player and Mcguire would have been all over him. Infact there was another pens player, a rookie I think, who turned the puck over and Mcguire made the guys in the Video truck show the replay of the pens coach talkin to the guilty player. Crosby does it, and not a peep out of Mcguire's Stupid Face.
I have Hated listening to Mcguire since I first heard his annoying voice. This is not a Hate fest brought on by his Crosby-Iginla debate. I Have, and will continue to listen to the radio broadcast of the flames while I watch the game on TSN. Peter Mahr, the radio voice of the flames, is in my opinion, the best broadcaster in the game anyway.

The Carey Price Incident
At the 2005 NHL entry draft, McGuire got into a minor controversy for alleged racist remarks. When the Montreal Canadiens selected goaltender Carey Price 5th overall, to the surprise of most people, Mcguire claimed "that's right off the reservation". Mcguire later explained that it was a little known saying similar to "out of left field", meaning no one expected it. However, it was soon noted that Price was part Native Canadian, leading some to accuse Mcguire of using "right off the reservation" as a way to make fun of Price's background.

I hate pierre so much, i have trouble watching games broadcast by TSN. If I ever hear the phrase "his stick was like a serpent's tongue" ever again, im going to beat my head against a wall until i forget it.
EXACTLY !!!! Pierre is semi-retarded and he doesn't even know the rules of the game nevermind anything about hockey. He doesn't even know how to watch the game and they have him commentating. It is really funny, he doesn't even see the game. Live, i will see what was obvious on the play/goal/shot/etc... He will replay something 5 times and still not see it deflect off or not deflect on someone. If you can't see the game (and that includes not just where the puck is) you have a lot to desire. Nevermind if you are not too smart or knowledgeable. I could go on and on, but i will sum it up with.... Pierre makes the game worse to watch and i usually end up muting it or i stop watching. And definitely if another game is on, i will watch whatever is not on TSN. Those tards in between periods are worse.

Pierre is the worst. He alone makes hockey on TSN unwatchable. If anyone from TSN is watching do not let pierre mcguire ruin the world juniors anymore, keep him away. Most Coaches/General Managers do the TV thing for a few months between hockey jobs. Mcguire was fired as the ducks coach like 6-7 years ago and hasent been hired by another hockey team since, despite his on-air dick sucking of NHL GM's for a job. His utterly annoying and unbearable personality are the reason for his lack of success in either career.
I saw Pierre outside after game seven of the 2007 Stanley Cup. From the tv segments during the playoffs, I wouldn't call him a big supporter of the southeast division, and to see him after the Oilers loss, i thought he looked the part of the disappointed partisan.
These league-wide on-air types have to at least pretend to be non-partisan. you can dream all you want about marquee match-ups, but it doesn't promote the sport if people can doubt the objectivity of your comments.
He's a HUGE douche. He constantly tries to undermine
his fellow commentators and show them up. Stuff like saying "immediately after the game Wayne Gretzky called me to say how good this kid is and then he came over and jerked me off because I am the greatest".
I do find it funny how he's completely different when on NBC. I think he takes his Ritalin for US broadcasts.

Pierre McGuire is by far the worst hockey commentator on television. the fact that he is employed by two diff networks boggles my mind. even more unbelievable is that they continue to employ him. its even worse when you have to listen to him ramble on like an idiot the whole time the game is on, but then add in Darren Pang adding his 2 cents during the intermission on tsn.. i cant do it anymore.
i have vowed to never watch any game with P.M speaking during it. i have also vowed to never watch tsn again until they get rid of that jackass, not just during his games but forever! if more ppl did maybe he would get fired.

He's on our local (Ottawa) sports radio show every morning. All year he's been yipping about the Sens having poor team-speed...makes me want to pummell him...McAmmand, Alfredsson, Vermette, Fisher, Corvo, Schubert, Comrie, Eaves -- all these guys have ABOVE average speed and some could be considered speed demons. And the speed at which the Sens move the puck, i.e. Redden coming out of the zone, Heater-Spezza-Alfie passes are 2nd to none. Bonehead McGuire: This has been happening all year! So stop constantly talking about the very small cup of coffee you had in the NHL as an ass coach, stop the constant name dropping, halt you unyielding love of soft, euro-forwards and PLEASE find another occupation. You are a disgrace to our fine sport of hockey. Go Sens Go.
I echo the sentiments of allot of you who say that Pierre McGuire is a blow-hard. If he was such a great coach or player, he would be known as such instead of being known as another loud mouth American who likes to hear himself talk.
