TSN: The Stupid Nework

2004_12_20tsn.gifThere was a fair share of drama in the sporting world yesterday:

The Philadelphia Eagles announced that Superstar Wide Receiver Terrell Owens is likely out for the season with a fractured fibula - drastically altering many prognosticators playoff expectations.

Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming combined for 74 points to spoil the Williams’ Toronto Raptor debuts.

Vince Carter spoke out about his trade to New Jersey, his time spent in Toronto, and the what-ifs during that period.

The New York Yankees announced that owner George Steinbrenner is talking with all-star Carlos Beltran and his agent to work out a deal that will likely rival the Alex Rodriguez contract - a move that would all but guarantee that the Jay’s don’t make the playoffs again this decade.

The 12-1 New England Patriots blew a fourth quarter lead against the Miami Dolphins – a team with only 2 wins to date – which will likely cost them home field advantage for the AFC playoffs.2004_12_21poker_chips.gif

But TSN, The "Sports" Network, has decided to go with a different story. TSN.ca reports that PokerRoom.com has officially propositioned Gary Bettman and Bob Goodenow to settle their dispute over a high-stakes game of Texas-Hold’em on their website.

2004_12_21goodenowbettman.jpgESPN, YAHOO and even NHL.com chose not even cover a feature that TSN.ca has put ahead of all the above events of Monday.

As a hockey fan, Torontoist is also upset with the state of the hockey union, yet only gives time and thought to the current CBA standoff when something significant transpires. Torontoist understands that TSN is a Canada-based station and therefore has a bias towards hockey as many Canadians do, but this is crossing the line. Tornotoist felt used and cheated when it hit the link in expectation of a newsworthy story, with the hope that perhaps there was a break in the lockout. TSN should feel disgraced, ashamed, and otherwise embarrassed. Torontoist will be steering clear of the NHL until the season is official. Or at least until Todd Bertuzzi accepts a plea bargain - although that should be posted in the Criminal Lowlife section, not Sports.
