Seven Straight Losses: No Laughing Matter

2004_12_13vclaughingWe at the Torontoist would like to apologize for how repetitive our basketball reports are becoming. As sorry as we are, though, it appears that nothing is changing.
Our “beloved” Dino’s lost yet another game Sunday afternoon, this time to Shaq-fu and the Miami Heat. It was the Raps seventh straight loss since they beat the same Heat in south Florida late last November. With games against T-wolves, Pacers, Nets, Rockets, Jazz, Suns, Lakers and Warriors left for December, it is quite possible that the abysmal Raptors could close out 2004 with a winless month.
Yours truly was in attendance along with 17,000 other disappointed fans yesterday afternoon at the ACC. While witnessing a disgusting fourth quarter performance, with our team handing away a game they had controlled for the first three periods, Torontoist had try hard to hold back the vomit.
Despite strong individual performances from Jalen Rose, Rafer Alston and Morris Peterson, the team, as usual, was unable to put the pieces together late in the game. The Torontoist promises not to post another Toronto Raptor article until the team wins again…or at least till VC gets traded (which would be much more appreciated than a ‘W’ at this point).
Vince is shown in laughing with the enemy following his team’s seventh straight defeat. Apparently Shaquille O’Neal asked Carter what he thought about his fooling Raptor management into paying him over 14 million dollars a year.

A Raptor 4th quarter is a thing to behold in person. At least they could soften the pain with the slim hope of a T-shirt flung into the nether regions of the ACC. But they’ve done away with the T-shirt cannon…
I guess patrons drowning their sorrows in $12 beer is better for the bottom line….
And is it just me or is that whole “mini-dance-pack” thing kinda creepy? Most male sports fans appear conditioned to react a certain way to cheerleaders in professional sports. The prospect of a Pavlovian reaction to a bunch of scantily clad 10 year olds seems like something the team would like to try harder to avoid.

I think the hope of a free pizza slice if the raps hit 95 points was all that kept the fans in their seats yesterday. Unfortunately I lost my appetite in doing so.
Great point about the mini-dance pack Yermum.. It’s definately rather creepy. If I wanted to see half-nude ten year old girls, I’d stay home and cue up a Lil’ Romeo video.
