Mean Witches

2004_11_29cd_shop_wicked.jpgJust from the three or four lines exchanged between the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch, you could tell there was a little bit of history there. It turns out the two witches actually had a close, non-sexual relationship - according to the stage production of Wicked.

The outgrowth of the classic Wizard of Oz looks at the complicated lives of witches, and acts as a prequel to the well known story of Dorothy and her ruby slippers. The play takes the Mean Girls dynamic to the land of Oz, describing the nameless Wicked Witch as "smart, fiery and misunderstood," Glinda as "beautiful, ambitious and very popular," and refers to everyone else as "my pretties." Starting today, Toronto will be able to buy tickets for the upcoming witch-on-witch action. The play debuts at the Canon Theatre on March 5, 2004.
