Grapefruit ReMooned

2004_11_28moon.gif Grapefruit Moon, that Seaton Village hub of hashed browns and fair trade coffee, is getting the makeover treatment. Its windows will remain covered with a fetching black plastic while a show, rumoured to be called ‘Restaurant Makeover,’ gives the resto the wham-bam-resplastered-mam redux. While Torontoist wasn’t gaga for the Moon’s previous look, it was cozy, and seemed to suit the local establishment quite nicely. We’ll be curious to see what those speedy and dextrous designer hands will bring forth in a few week’s time. In the interim, SLT (seitan, lettuce and tomato) fans will have to go elsewhere to have their brunch needs met.

This seriously distressed me when I saw it last week, looking for a late-evening snack. Where am I to go this Saturday morning? I want my blueberry pancakes within trotting distance of my home!
Also distressing: The Annex Cafe, five doors up Bathurst from GMoon, seems to have stopped selling those tasty cranberry bread-cake things…

Talk about what is scary behind the counters, There was no attempt to ever clean that place whatsoever and majority of the construction went towards making sure you dont fall into the basement.. Dont like thepaint fine.. but good lord ..dont bring people in with the place falling apart … 8 layers of grease sitting on the fryers and cockroaches making a kingdom in one of the counter spaces.. What more disgusting is having it on television … Well least it has notified the health authorities in toronto and if sandy cannot manage to keep a respectable establishment .. she would be better off selling the place ..esp after the airing of the show.. It was disgusting.. the grapefruit moon should of been renamed to cockroaches hotel

After watching the show, I have to sincerely question Toronto’s health inspection standards. No amount of editing could have exaggerated or downplayed the horrid state of the Grapefruit Moon. How on earth was it still in operation? One would think that it would have failed inspection long ago and would have been shut down. I’ve visited Toronto a few times, but the next time I go, I am seriously going to have to think twice about the quality of what I’m eating b/c if that diner, with it’s obvious deficiencies passed inspection, who know’s what lurks in other restaurants!

where is the health department in toronto, wasnt this dump inspected in 6 years.
It was horrific, who could eat a meal in such filthy surroundings, I am still getting the shivers. Cockeroaches living merrily in the hollow wall of the counter, how could she not take care of something as obvious as that?
The burned crap in the fryalator… she never cleans it…. hell then you d have to throw out the old grease and buy new stuff.
You know somefolks don t know what “Good food is”
and where it has to be prepared” So this slob serves her slob clientle & everyone is happy
    Go figure!

Sandy is an ungrateful woman, who knows NOTHING about running a restaurant…only how to breed cockroaches. I wouldn’t eat there no matter how much the establishment was made over! An establishment is a direct reflection of the person running it and Sandy is filthy, dirty and needs to be made over herself, more than that restaurant! Someone needs to do that community a favor and revoke that lady’s license!!

Sandy is an ungrateful typical liberal. Cockroaches cooked by her cook should be on the menu. Just saw it on HGTV and she is repulsive. Sad, sad, sad. She won’t get my money and her kitchen help will be digging ditches in a year (even though they don’t deserve to.)

It is a dirty ,greasy spoon with dirty greasy, uncaring staff. Food made me sick. YUCK!!!

I Just had to voice my opinion on this one. I have just watched Restaurant Makeover here in Ireland and can’t believe the slack attitude to public health and safety that Canada seems to have. Decor is decor it can be changed. It would cost most of that budget to clean, rewire and make that space safe for staff and customers. I have not been in the restaurant but I certainly wouldn’t be happy eating somewhere that has so little regard for the safety of their customers. Why would you give that woman your money? Amazing!!
